Nicholas Williams

Nicholas Williams, the Assistant Director of Wind Studies at the University of North Texas, is the Conductor of the Concert Band and the Director of Athletic Bands, including the North Texas Green Brigade Marching Band. In addition to this position, Mr. Williams is in the final stage of doctoral coursework, completing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting, as a student of Eugene Migliaro Corporon.

Prior to this assignment at the University of North Texas, Mr. Williams, a three-time honoree of Who’s Who Among America’s Educators, was the Director of Bands at Clark High School in Plano, Texas. In his last year of public school teaching, he was honored as the Clark High School Teacher of the Year, a Finalist for the Plano ISD Teacher of the Year, and was named a “Ross Perot Excellence in Teaching Award” recipient—an award given to only four secondary teachers annually in the Plano ISD. During his tenure at Clark High School, the band program received consistent sweepstakes awards, and under his baton, the Honors Band was awarded Best in Class or Best in Contest in every festival in which the band performed.

Nicholas has been very active in DCI. He is currently the Brass Caption Head for the Santa Clara Vanguard. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Williams has been a member of the brass staffs of the Santa Clara Vanguard, Madison Scouts, Southwind, and the Boston Crusaders, where he has served in various capacities ranging from Brass Instructor to Brass Caption Head/Staff Coordinator.

Mr. Williams is active in the United States and Asia as a clinician, adjudicator, and arranger; his arrangements for percussion ensemble, concert band, and marching band are performed by outstanding high school and college organizations throughout the country. His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, College Band Directors National Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

 
Bryan T. Harmsen

Bryan received his formal education from Florida State University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Information Studies and he currently resides in the greater Houston area. He is a co-founder and owner of Visaudio Designs. He has arranged for and been a clinician and instructor for a number of schools in the southeastern states and Texas. He is a music arranger with a focus in percussion arranging and his arrangements and compositions have helped many ensembles to achieve numerous accolades, and is currently the program coordinator for the world champion Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps. Bryan was a member of a number of drum and bugle corps including Spirit of Atlanta, 2000, Southwind, 2001 and 2002, and The Cavaliers for 2003 and the 2004 championship season. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association.

 
Alan Miller

Alan Miller currently lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where he serves as percussion specialist for the Coppell High School and Coppell Ridge Middle Schools in the Coppell school district. He has been an instructor/arranger/clinician in Texas for many years, including one year as arranger/instructor for the West Texas A & M University Drumline.

Alan is currently a pit instructor for the 6-time world champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. 2006 is his 6th season as an instructor with the corps. In addition to teaching the front ensemble, he has arranged the group's I & E ensemble for the last four years, including 2004 and 2005, for which they were awarded 1st place. He began his career with the corps in 1996 as a member of the front ensemble, followed by two seasons as section leader ('97 and '98). During this time, he recieved 1st place in the Drum Corps Midwest I & E keyboard competition and placed as high as 2nd in the DCI competition.

Alan attended college at West Texas A & M University in Canyon, TX, where he studied percussion with Dr. Susan Martin-Tariq and conducting with Dr. Gary Garner. While living in West Texas, he was a nine-year member of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra, where he served as principal percussionist and timpanist. In 2001, he performed as xylophone soloist with the symphony under the direction of Keith Brion.

In 2000, Alan was awarded second place in Percussive Arts Society's international concerto competition, where he performed with the TCU Wind Symphony.

Alan is also the pit instructor for Metro Alliance Percussion, a WGI Independent Open World Finalist based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.

 
Brian Perez

Brian Perez is a member of the percussion staff of The Cavaliers from Rosemont, IL. He has had numerous works published by Tapspace Publications. Perez has also served as the writer and director of the drumline for the University of Houston Spirit of Houston Marching Band 2005-2006. Aside from his responsibilities at the university, Brian has also taught at Clear Brook High School in Friendswood, TX, working alongside Christopher Retschulte. He was an integral part of Clear Brook’s program, as well as a large influence on their success and victory as champions of the 2005 Winter Guard International Open Class Competition. Brian's other teaching experiences have included Langham Creek High School and Pearland High School, both in the greater Houston area.

Perez was a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard tenor line from 2000-2004 under the instruction of the legendary Ralph Hardimon, Glen Crosby, Jim Casella, and Murray Gusseck. There, he served as the section leader for all five years, and was a member of the instructional staff in 2005. Perez was a member of the 2001 Texas All-State Band and also received the honor of the first place tenor individual award at Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 1999.
