Music FAQs

If you have any questions that have not been answered here, please feel free to contact us with your questions. Thanks!

How much do we charge?
Generally speaking, original compositions will cost more than arrangements, but pricing will vary from show to show. Please let us know what you have in mind and we will quote you a price.

Do we do custom compositions and arrangements?
Yes, and we can also take existing pieces and adapt them for your purposes.

What music software do we use?
We use Sibelius for music notation, Kontakt 2 for sampling, and Sonar for mixing and mastering recordings.

Will we help you acquire the necessary rights to arrange/perform pieces for your show?
Yes, a nonrefundable fee of $150 per piece we will attempt to secure these rights for you. This does not guarantee that the copyright holder will grant permission. We will notify you of any additional fees required by the copyright holders and you can decide if you are willing to pay them or not.  We can then discuss how payment for those right will be handled.

Can we do engraving of existing scores?
Yes.

Do we offer rewrites?
In the early stages of show development, we will try to make changes to give you exactly what it is you are wanting in your music, whether that be adhering to program notes or making changes to best fit the desired ideas.

Beyond the initial creative stages, rewrites will not be done as we will provide you with a product that fits your specifications. Should you still prefer that we make changes for you at that point, additional fees will be incurred and will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Will you receive recordings of your show?
All clients receive ensemble recordings for the individual movements of their shows. All recordings are made using sounds from various sample libraries, including Virtual Drumline 2.5 , assorted instruments from the Vienna Symphonic Library, Dan Dean Pro, and a few others.

Should you want them for your band or percussion section, we also offer rehearsal click tracks, and any combination of instruments with or without a click track (e.g. battery, just brass, Clarinet 1, battery without the snare part, etc). The combinations are virtually inexhaustible and can really provide your students with great learning and practice tools.

Imagine them being able to know what they need to listen for before they even set foot in the same room as the rest of the band...

What do we need from you to make a click track for your show?
As a bare minimum, we need music scores with tempos markings.

Like the recordings, this can be as simple or as complicated as you would like. The simplest would be to make recordings of each movement of your show with a simple "8 and your in" at the beginning of each movement.  A more robust solution would entail making a playlist based on your count sheet and/or music scores at a variety of tempos of your choosing. The price will increase with complexity as it will be a more involved process.

One of the main benefits of using click tracks is not having to train someone to run a metronome, especially when encountering tempo changes, or accelerani/decelerandi. Once again, imagine every student having a tool that could train them to know exactly how to interpret and pace accels or subito tempo changes...
